Pedestrian Killed While Mowing Church Lawn in St. Charles County, Missouri

Posted By Russ Purvis || 16-Sep-2013

At approximately 7:30 a.m., on September 12, 2013, in an unfortunate and very unusual car accident, a pedestrian, Valente Zapata, was struck and killed by a car while mowing the lawn at the Trinity Lutheran Church in the Orchard Farm area of St. Charles County, Missouri.

Mr. Zapata was mowing the church lawn when Laurel Schneck lost control of her 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer while traveling southbound, through a curve on Missouri 94, near the church. According to reports, Ms. Schneck's vehicle hydroplaned while traveling through the curve. The vehicle left the roadway, overturned several times and struck Mr. Zapata, killing him. Ms. Schneck had to be cut out of her vehicle, and was also injured.

Those familiar with the area, describe the curve as dangerous, especially when wet, as it appeared to have been on Thursday morning.
