Missouri Consumers Beware - Con Artists Have a New Scam

Posted By Russ Purvis || 30-Jul-2012

Residents of Missouri beware - con artists are at it again. The Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has issued a warning relating to another scam involving alleged “prizes”. The thieves send letters informing individuals that they have one a prize worth more than $1 million dollars; however, taxes must be paid on the prize before it can be redeemed.

The crooks are using official looking letterhead. It may appear to be FBI, IRS, or Missouri Attorney General’s Office letterhead. Don’t be fooled it is a scam. Unfortunately, this type of activity occurs nationwide. Older adults can be particularly vulnerable. If you receive any material that you find suspicious, contact the Missouri Attorney General’s Office immediately at 800-392-8222.
